About

I believe that creativity is just one thought or action away and that handmade can mean well made, functional, beautiful and inspiring.

I believe that beautiful outcomes are made especially with an individual in mind, while colour and creative outcomes can inspire and comfort others.

Everyone can make time and space to add colour to their lives.

I’m inspired by my customers and my children and I add colour to their lives through my creative processes and colourful outcomes. Ultimately what is made & created at Luscious Little Somethings comes from a deep love of colour & colour use. Colour is the root from which everything else grows.

beth1I’m Beth Sutherland, Designer at Luscious Little Somethings. I add colour to people’s lives. I hand dye & sew using mainly natural, organic or fair trade fabrics and yarns, producing creative materials and outcomes for customer knitting, sewing, plus produce clothing & cloth for kids.

Luscious Little Somethings designs and dyes materials that enable you to create something beautiful and produces products that provide comfort and colour in your life and the lives of your loved ones.

A BIT MORE ABOUT BETH

I’m a self employed designer / maker. I work from home flexibly while also being able to spend quality time with my daughters during their formative years. It’s a way for me to create, follow my passion for materials and colour, spend time with my children, but also continue to work and practise doing something I love. I started Luscious Little Somethings in Summer 2009 as a way to legitimise my growing passion for fabric, yarn, sewing and spinning.

I create materials for others because I want to help enable them to create and give nice things to those around them, with materials and outcomes that have huge intrinsic value. If I can be a little better at what I do everyday then maybe what I make will inspire others to create too and what I produce each day will be a little better than what I created the day before.

I blog about what I make and work on, as a way to express myself creatively. My website is sort of like a virtual sketchbook and notepad for me to keep track and formalise what’s in my head, which is why the blog format is such a big presence here. I flesh out ideas here and get them down into words or catalogue outcomes I’ve made. I can’t help creating and making things, so I like to blog about it as the creative process is a big part of what makes me tick.

DESIGN BACKGROUND
I have a honors degree in Design from Glasgow School of Art class of 2000 where I studied Graphic Design & Visual Communication. I also have a PgDip in Digital Media Design which focus on video production and multimedia. I worked most recently in as a Design Service Manager for a games testing company and I’ve been a practising designer for almost 12 years now. I always tend to come back to my creative side and being self employed gives me the creative freedom and flexibility I relish as well as providing myself artistic and creative license through my practice.
